Firstly, let us not misunderstand one fact: Prabowo Subianto does not think Indonesia will be dissolved by 2030. Well, this is based on his speech as he only referred to the book itself.
The phrase as quoted ‘mereka sudah bikin kajian-kajian’ in his latest speech shows that he was referencing to it. Clearly, he DID NOT envision the collapse of Indonesia in 2030, but those who did were the authors of the book that Prabowo quoted.
However…
The fact that he chose a sci-fi novel as his reference, in the hopes of “scaring” fellow Indonesians might not have been the best move, especially during a presidential campaign… simply because… it is a sci-fi novel.
I can’t speak for everyone in this community, but as a university student, referencing my essay based on a non-academic novel would bring upon me a mighty “Fail”. I reference a source because it brings more depth and supports my argument. Hence, if PS decided to reference that source, it is simply because truthfully, he kind of agrees with it and accepts it.
But then you will say: “this is not the same thing as university… this is a presidential campaign”.
There you have it… The country’s future is at stake. Every words, actions, statements might impact OUR future… not something to be taken lightly. And here comes this guy who tries to “scare” Indonesian people with a sci-fi novel.
I don’t see the reasoning behind citing or even mentioning a sci-fi book to scare people away in the first place. I, just like everyone presumably in this community, would be more frightened by discouraging statistics as well as facts provided by academics or controlled studies.
The fact that PS decided to use a fiction to “scare” Indonesians instead of facts just depicts his under appreciation of their intelligence and common sense. I feel belittled by that…
Then again, this is just my opinion… PS supporter, if you decide to bombard me with your arguments, please do so. I hope I am ready… (or not).
